Overview
The best launch-day plan is the one that turns uncertainty into structure. Right now the map and data already make a few things clear: start with a stable character shell, keep the first route inside the safest infrastructure band, and treat your first upgrades, quest clusters, and reset points as mandatory before you start improvising.
That means Day 1 is less about raw completion speed and more about route quality. A clean first session sets up every boss, artifact, and region push that comes after it.
First Session
The safest opening stack is still Hernand-first. Use the camp spine to stabilize resources, touch the first smithy and merchant points early, then push out once the route has real recovery value. That keeps you from losing time to repairs, dead travel, or a bad first boss attempt with no nearby reset.

Pick Your Opener
Start with Kliff Macduff if you want the lowest-risk launch shell. He is the confirmed starter, his combat data already covers melee and ranged adaptation, and his stat profile does not force you into either perfect defense or brute-force commitment on the first day.
Best blind Day 1 pick. Flexible, stable, and the cleanest route into early upgrades.
Best when you are confident forcing stagger and want to convert brute force into fast route control.
Best if you already know you want precision and can tolerate a rougher launch learning curve.
High-Value Stops
Launch day should prioritize systems and clusters, not isolated curiosities. The best optional stops are the ones that open more routes or make the next hour cheaper.

That is also why the Abyss Artifact route should support the session instead of hijacking it. Take the artifact or boss that reinforces your opener, then return to the main path instead of trying to brute-force the entire world on day one.
Avoid These Mistakes
Do not bounce between every region just because the map is open. Do not overcommit to a high-risk boss before your first repair and reset loop is stable. Do not let a speculative weapon rumor pull you off the route that is already feeding your build.
If you keep the first session focused, the rest of the game opens faster. Use this page as the checklist layer, then branch into the starter build, the weapon location guide, and the boss route guide once your opener is secure.
